There is minimal downtime or recovery following a facial fat transfer. The face may appear puffy or swollen at first, but this will fade over the course of several weeks. Bruising or redness may also occur. Patients should stay out of the sun until redness and bruising have subsided. There is typically minimal discomfort after the facial fat transfer and is well controlled with the prescribed pain medication. Down time after surgery is minimal, as exercise and work can often be resumed within a few days. Once the transferred fat cells have successfully integrated into their areas of injection, the results are permanent.
